Runway Improvements |
| The airpark runway had
some rough areas that were noticed by smaller aircraft. In
addition, there were areas of the runway where grass would
not grow because of the red iron ore base. In April 2007,
the developer had 60 loads of top soil brought in and placed
about a 2" layer from end to end on the south 1/2 of runway
surface and the north side of RWY 9 to mid-point. This was
then fertilized and seeded with Bermuda grass which has
established itself well. Runway lights and a Visual Landing
System (VLS) were later installed. We plan to finish the
second half of the north side of the runway (north side of
RWY 27) in 2008. |

Windsock light, size upgrade,
and mount upgrade |
| Member Ray Hoffmaster cut
down the windsock and modified it so it can be lowered for
maintenance. This is really nice and makes maintenance much
easier and safer. While this was being accomplished, the
windsock was replaced with a larger more visible sock and
frame. We also upgraded to a lighted frame. We had an ice
cream social at the windsock on May 16th where we lit the
windsock in the first dark of the evening. |

Runway Lighting |
| Lights have been purchased
and installed on the edges of the runway. Lighting is
placed at 200 foot intervals with blue lights on each side
of current taxiway entrances. Additionally, there are 4 red
threshold lights at each end of the runway. (If you are not
familiar with landing on this runway it suggested you do not
land here at night) The lights were lit for the first time
on May 17th with many members present. |
